Doha, March 2: Qatar has strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on a commercial oil tanker near Duqm Port in Oman on Sunday. The country expressed solidarity with Oman in taking all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability.
In an official statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry described these attacks as a violation of Oman’s sovereignty, an unacceptable provocation, and a cowardly act against a nation that plays a crucial mediating role in reducing tensions between Iran and the international community.
The ministry posted on the social media platform X, stating, “Qatar vehemently condemns the Iranian attacks targeting the commercial port of Duqm and an oil tanker off its coast. We view these actions as a violation of the Sultanate’s sovereignty and an unacceptable provocation.”
The statement further affirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Oman in all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability.
Majid Mohammed Al-Ansari, an advisor to Qatar’s Prime Minister and spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, remarked that the attacks on Oman reflect a dangerous trend that jeopardizes the role of mediators and undermines one of the most critical means of managing crises and maintaining peace and stability.
He posted on X, “Targeting the Sultanate of Oman deliberately is an attack on the principles of mediation. A country that has genuinely attempted to mediate and prevent bloodshed has kept the doors of diplomacy open until the last moment. Qatar has been targeted for its mediation efforts, as we previously warned. This attack demonstrates a dangerous pattern that endangers the role of mediators.”
According to Oman’s News Agency, this statement from Qatar came after the commercial port of Duqm was targeted by two drones. One drone collided with a mobile workers’ residence, injuring an external worker.
The agency reported that the wreckage of the second drone fell in an area near a fuel storage tank, causing no casualties or damage. Oman has condemned the attacks.
