Gifu, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : Indian rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan clinched the bronze medal in the men’s double sculls event at the Asian Games, finishing with a time of 6:13.25. The competition took place at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course in Gifu on September 24, 2026.
The duo secured their third-place finish behind China’s duo of Zhu Di and Yi De Ni, who won gold with a time of 6:09.77. Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekharozbek Mamatkulov took silver, clocking in at 6:10.49.
At the halfway mark of the race, the Indian pair was positioned for bronze, trailing behind Uzbekistan and China. They briefly moved into second place with 500 meters remaining, but ultimately finished third as they were overtaken in the final stretch.
This marks Satnam’s second medal at the Asian Games. He previously earned bronze as part of the men’s quadruple sculls team in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Salman, hailing from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, has been included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), which provided him with elite training and sports science support. His success at the Asian Rowing Cup earned him a promotion to the rank of Naib Subedar in the Indian Army.
In the men’s single sculls final, Balraj Pawar missed out on a medal, finishing fourth with a time of 6:54.80. He was in contention for silver but fell behind Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev, who surged ahead with 500 meters remaining.
China’s Deng Zhiwei won gold with a time of 6:38.98, followed by Uzbekistan’s Kholmurzaev with silver at 6:41.83, and Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama, who secured bronze in 6:46.78.
