Ichinomiya, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian men’s badminton team has achieved a significant milestone by winning a bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Ichinomiya. Following their victory, the players expressed their joy, marking India’s first medal in the team event at this prestigious competition.
Hariharan Amsakarunan, a member of the bronze medal-winning team, shared his excitement, stating, “I am thrilled to be part of the Asian Games team. This is my first time participating, and I believe we had a fantastic team. We gave it our all, and winning this medal at such a renowned event makes me very proud for my country.”
HS Prannoy reflected on the challenge of consistently securing medals in the Asian Games, noting, “Winning medals in consecutive Asian Games is never easy. Previously, we had never won a medal in the team event, but achieving a silver in 2023 was a significant accomplishment. Overcoming strong teams and reaching the podium again showcases our team’s consistency in major events, especially in team competitions. I feel immense pride and joy to be part of this journey, and I hope we continue to win medals in the future.”
Indian badminton coach R.M.V. Gurusai Dutt emphasized the importance of this medal for the team, stating, “This medal is crucial for us as a team. It will boost the players’ confidence in individual events. The Asian Games are as prestigious as the Olympics, making medal wins challenging. Achieving this consistently is truly historic. The players deserve commendation for their outstanding performance over the years, especially after winning the Thomas Cup and now securing a bronze medal.”
Player Tharun Mannepalli added, “First and foremost, I want to thank all my teammates who have been part of this journey. Winning the bronze medal is a special moment for me.
