Manipur’s Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh extended his congratulations on this remarkable achievement.
In a post on his official X account, the Chief Minister wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to Naorem Roshibina Devi for winning the silver medal in the women’s sanda 60 kg category at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Her achievement of securing a medal in three consecutive Asian Games brings immense pride to Manipur and India. I hope she continues to inspire our youth and brings further glory to the nation.”
The Chief Minister’s Office of Manipur also shared a message on their official X handle, highlighting Roshibina’s historic accomplishment. She has now become the first Indian wushu athlete to win medals in three consecutive Asian Games, having previously secured bronze in Jakarta 2018 and silver in Hangzhou 2023.
In the final, Roshibina faced China’s Zhang Xiaoyu, where she ultimately lost 0-2. Zhang dominated the match, winning both rounds 5-0, leading to a final score of 10-0.
This silver medal marks Roshibina’s third medal at the Asian Games. At just 25 years old, she previously won a bronze medal at the Jakarta-Palembang Games when she was only 17. This time, she aimed to change the color of her medal but fell short of her goal. Nevertheless, her consecutive silver medals demonstrate her exceptional talent and determination, making her a source of pride for the nation.
Roshibina’s journey to the finals included a decisive victory over Macau’s Chu Man Sin, whom she defeated 5-0 in the quarterfinals. In wushu sanda, reaching the semifinals guarantees at least a bronze medal. She had hoped to improve upon her previous performance in 2022 and secured her spot in the finals by overcoming Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas with a score of 2-0.
Despite not achieving gold this time, Roshibina’s consistent success at the Asian Games showcases her remarkable abilities and dedication to the sport. The nation takes pride in her achievements.
