Chandigarh, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has intensified its anti-corruption efforts, leading to the arrest of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurbaksh Singh. He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹80,000 at the Sadar police station in Faridkot.
According to an official spokesperson for the Bureau, the arrest followed a complaint from a resident of Ghugiana village in Faridkot district. The complainant alleged that ASI Singh had previously accepted ₹40,000 to dismiss a case against him. Subsequently, Singh demanded an additional ₹80,000 to withdraw the case entirely.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the Punjab Vigilance Bureau’s Firozpur range. Acting on his complaint, the Bureau set up a sting operation. Singh was apprehended while accepting the bribe in the presence of two government witnesses.
A case has been registered against Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Firozpur, and further investigations are underway.
In a related note, the Punjab government announced on social media that the Bureau also caught Senior Section Engineer Pankaj Bhardwaj accepting ₹40,000 in bribes from Northern Railway. Previously, the Bureau arrested Sub-Divisional Officer Hardeep Singh in Nabha for accepting ₹50,000. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has vowed to continue its crackdown on corruption, promising strict action against any government official found soliciting bribes.
