Rahul Gandhi Urges Youth to Continue Protests, Vows Opposition Will Not Back Down

Chennai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, called on young protesters to keep up their demonstrations during an event in Chennai on Saturday. He assured them that the opposition would continue its fight to defend the Constitution and counter those who attack it.

Speaking at the “Students’ Voice” event, Gandhi shared his message on the social media platform X, emphasizing that while the government could arrest opposition leaders and youth, they would not retreat.

His remarks come amid police action against individuals attempting to join protests in Delhi demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Gandhi criticized the current administration, labeling it cowardly. He stated that he has been battling the NDA government for over a decade and understands their tactics well. He noted that political and ideological spaces for dissent are shrinking as opponents intensify their efforts.

“You can deploy as much police as you want and arrest as many leaders, youth, or opposition workers as you wish, but we will not back down,” he asserted.

While he mentioned that the opposition possesses crucial information, he did not elaborate further. Gandhi reiterated the commitment to safeguard the voices of the public, vowing that the past decade’s events would not be repeated.

Expressing pride in the nation’s youth, he urged them to continue their protests and assured them that the opposition would stand firmly with them. He also shared a video of his address related to this message.

The protests in Delhi were organized by the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP). According to police, over 3,000 people were detained while attempting to reach the protest site. Additionally, more than 600 individuals with criminal records were also taken into custody as a precautionary measure.

The Delhi police stated that no permission was granted for the demonstration and that prohibitory orders were in effect in the New Delhi area. Gandhi conveyed to the protesters that the Congress and the opposition would support them.
