Punjab Police Uncovers Major Drug Trafficking Module

Chandigarh, April 18: The Special State Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, along with Punjab’s Counter Intelligence, has dismantled a significant drug trafficking module linked to cross-border smuggling. Police arrested two suspects near Mahal village in Amritsar, seizing 64.62 kilograms of heroin.

Initial investigations revealed connections between this network and handlers based abroad, as well as traffickers based in Pakistan. An FIR has been lodged at the SSOC police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to uncover the entire network. The Punjab Police remains fully committed to eradicating drug networks and ensuring peace and security in the region.

Previously, on March 23, Punjab’s Counter Intelligence achieved a major success against drug trafficking in Amritsar, arresting two individuals and confiscating 5 kilograms of heroin. Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav provided these details.

The DGP noted that initial investigations indicated involvement from a trafficker based in Pakistan and a handler located abroad in the cross-border drug shipments. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station, and further inquiries are ongoing, with more arrests likely. The DGP reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring a drug-free, secure Punjab.

Earlier, on March 22, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), uncovered a cross-border drug trafficking network linked to Pakistan during a significant joint operation. Three suspects were arrested with 24.5 kilograms of heroin, 2.1 million rupees in drug money, a multi-copter drone, and two vehicles.
