Shiv Sena Criticizes Congress for Celebrating Single Seat Win in Maharashtra Elections

Shiv Sena leaders question Congresss celebration after winning just one seat in recent Maharashtra elections, urging introspection.

Mumbai, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : In the aftermath of the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, Shiv Sena leaders have launched a scathing critique of the Congress party. They questioned Congress’s electoral strategy and the appropriateness of celebrating a victory after securing only one seat.

Sanjay Nirupam, a spokesperson for Shiv Sena, expressed concerns over the lack of coordination among the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners. He emphasized that maintaining unity within the alliance is crucial, as internal disagreements could be exploited by opposition parties.

Responding to the election results, Nirupam dismissed allegations made against Shiv Sena by a BJP ally, while acknowledging that there was insufficient coordination among the three coalition parties during the elections. He noted that the larger party in the alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), bears a greater responsibility to ensure effective collaboration.

Nirupam stressed that the political strength of the coalition hinges on its unity. If the parties engage in infighting, their vulnerabilities will be exposed, allowing leaders from the opposition, such as the Maha Vikas Aghadi and Congress, to capitalize on the situation.

He specifically criticized Congress for celebrating its single seat win amidst a broader electoral defeat, highlighting that out of 28 contested seats across four states, Congress managed to secure just one. Nirupam challenged Congress’s rationale for not contesting all seats, suggesting that if it aspires to be a major national party, it should reflect on its limited participation.

Moreover, he indicated that the party’s poor performance signals a rejection by voters, particularly among educated and urban demographics. Instead of reflecting on its failures, Congress seems more focused on the BJP’s reduced seat count, which he described as an example of negative politics.

Shiv Sena’s Shaina NC also commented on Congress’s dismal performance, questioning the effectiveness of its demands regarding ballot paper issues, given the weak electoral results.

Anand Dubey of Shiv Sena responded to inquiries regarding Form-6 raised by the Supreme Court, stating that it would be inappropriate for him to comment on the ongoing discussions between the court and the Election Commission. He advised the opposition to address any grievances directly in court or through the Election Commission.

Dubey further criticized Congress for its celebratory attitude as if it had won all 28 seats, questioning the party’s credibility and political character.

Manisha Kayande, a Shiv Sena member of the Legislative Council, expressed her joy over the re-election of Kiran Sarnaik from the Amravati division, thanking educators for their support.

Anand Paranjape, another spokesperson for Shiv Sena, noted that the Mahayuti alliance had expected better results in the elections. He lamented that, with proper coordination, the outcome could have been a clean sweep of 5-0 in favor of the alliance, instead of the actual results where the Maha Vikas Aghadi secured three seats. He reiterated that ensuring effective collaboration was primarily the BJP’s responsibility.
