Indian Stock Market Closes Strongly, Sensex Surges by 905 Points

The Indian stock market closed positively with Sensex rising 905 points amid broad-based buying and improved liquidity.

Mumbai, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market ended on a high note on October 29, 2026, with the Sensex climbing by 905.01 points, or 1.24 percent, to close at 74,151.04. The Nifty also saw a significant rise, gaining 237.90 points, or 1.05 percent, finishing at 22,936.75.

Broad-based buying was evident across the market. The Nifty Midcap 100 Index increased by 566.95 points, or 0.99 percent, to reach 57,841.65, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 Index rose by 176.45 points, or 0.95 percent, closing at 18,811.35.

Among the sectors, Nifty Realty led the gains with a rise of 2.75 percent, followed by Nifty FMCG at 2.34 percent and Nifty PSU Bank at 2.20 percent. Other sectors such as Nifty Services, Private Bank, Infra, Consumer Durables, and Financial Services also saw notable increases. The only sector to close lower was Nifty Auto, which slipped by 0.24 percent.

Key gainers in the Sensex pack included Adani Ports, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, and Infosys, among others. In contrast, stocks like Trent, Maruti Suzuki, and HDFC Bank faced losses.

Market analysts attributed the rally to the U.S. Federal Reserve’s pause on interest rate hikes, a slight easing in crude oil prices, and renewed buying from institutional investors. Despite a challenging external environment, strong consumer demand particularly boosted FMCG stocks. Additionally, the financial, IT, realty, and power sectors showed resilience, while mid-cap and small-cap stocks indicated a broader market recovery.

They further noted that recent foreign investor purchases and ongoing support from domestic institutional investors have improved liquidity in the market. While robust earnings and stable domestic demand are positive signs, rising input costs may pressure company margins. Nonetheless, high Brent crude prices, a weakening rupee, increasing domestic bond yields, and geopolitical uncertainties remain key risks.
