Opposition Questions Voting Rights and Election Integrity Following MLC Results
Opposition leaders criticize BJP over MLC election results, raising concerns about voting rights and election integrity.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leaders have sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in response to the recent results of the MLC elections. Congress MP Manish Tewari raised concerns about voting rights, questioning the BJP’s “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” campaign. Meanwhile, leaders from the Samajwadi Party (SP) alleged irregularities in the elections, citing administrative pressure and the removal of names from voter lists. However, these allegations have not been independently verified.
Tewari emphasized that the opposition is fighting for the right to vote. He stated that 130 million people have been deprived of their voting rights. If these individuals were granted their rights back, such rallies would not be necessary.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the MLC election results, Tewari noted that each election has its own context and scope. He argued that the voter demographics and electoral constituencies in MLC elections differ, making it inappropriate for someone in the Prime Minister’s position to make such remarks. He stressed the importance of considering the specific circumstances and characteristics of the relevant constituencies when evaluating election outcomes.
SP spokesperson Udayveer Singh commented that the election results reflect the sentiments of the educated class and youth in Uttar Pradesh. He pointed out that the party’s vote share has significantly increased in the constituencies where they contested, winning several new seats despite facing narrow losses in some due to administrative bias and pressure.
In Delhi, SP MP Harendra Malik remarked that the Congress’s opinions are their own. He praised the SP’s performance in the MLC elections, claiming they won five out of eleven seats despite adverse conditions. Malik alleged that thousands of names were removed from the voter lists in their district for both graduate and teacher constituencies. He also noted that overall voter turnout was lower compared to the previous elections.
The statements from opposition leaders indicate a growing political debate surrounding voting rights, voter lists, and election integrity in the wake of the MLC election results. The confirmation of allegations related to irregularities in the elections remains pending, reliant on factual evidence and official records.
