Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar Resigns Amid Controversy

Chandigarh, March 21: Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has resigned from his position. This decision follows an attempted suicide by Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the Punjab State Warehouse Corporation. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann accepted Bhullar’s resignation in light of the incident.

Reports indicate that the resignation was prompted by the suicide attempt of a warehouse department official. In addition, Chief Minister Mann has ordered a fair investigation into the entire matter.

Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, stationed in Amritsar, attempted suicide on Friday by consuming poison. Before his attempt, he posted a video on social media, making serious allegations of pressure being exerted on him. The release of this video caused a stir within the administrative system.

Sources reveal that a proposal for a warehouse location was under consideration. However, when the departmental team inspected the site, they discovered high-voltage power lines running above it, which did not meet safety standards. Consequently, the department rejected the proposal. Reports suggest that pressure was being applied on the official regarding this decision.

Allegations claim that during a visit to Amritsar on Friday, Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar allegedly pressured the district manager to change his decision. This led to Randhawa taking such a drastic step due to mental distress. However, these allegations will require official confirmation following an investigation.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann promptly accepted the minister’s resignation and directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a thorough investigation. He emphasized that any form of negligence or political pressure would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against those responsible. Currently, police and administrative officials are investigating the case.

The Chief Minister has made it clear that any form of negligence or political pressure will not be tolerated.
