Chandigarh, April 1: Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar strongly condemned the vandalism of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Hoshiarpur district on Tuesday. He demanded immediate action from the state government.
Jakhar urged the people of Punjab to remain vigilant against divisive forces and to maintain communal harmony. He stated that certain elements operating from abroad are attempting to disrupt peace in the state, even targeting police stations. However, he expressed regret that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has failed to take effective action.
In a message shared on social media, he wrote: “The Bharatiya Janata Party condemns the damage to the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in Hoshiarpur district. Such incidents reflect the government’s failure in Punjab, and police stations are also being targeted.”
“Those sitting abroad are trying to spread hatred in Punjab, while the state government appears unable to act. These attempts to create division in society will never succeed, but the government must fulfill its responsibilities. We appeal to all Punjabis to be cautious of such divisive forces and to maintain brotherhood.”
Jakhar further stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann should focus on the situation in the state rather than trying to please his leadership in Delhi. He suggested that the Chief Minister would be better off working to improve law and order in the state instead of wasting time visiting other states for his party leadership.
Meanwhile, Parmjit Singh Kanth, President of the BJP’s Scheduled Caste Front, remarked in a statement that the repeated incidents of disrespect and vandalism of Baba Saheb’s statues are not only extremely concerning but also raise serious questions about the law and order situation in the state.
The latest incident occurred in the village of Noor Pur Jattan in the Garhshankar sub-district of Hoshiarpur.
