
Gurdaspur, April 22: The wheat procurement season in Punjab is gaining momentum, with the state government closely monitoring the process. In this context, Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak inspected the grain market in Gurdaspur to assess the arrangements in place.
During his visit, he stated that wheat procurement is increasing daily across the state, and the government is ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulties. He emphasized that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, the state government prioritizes the interests of farmers.
Kataruchak mentioned that after Gurdaspur, he plans to visit other markets to enhance the procurement process further. He noted that the mechanisms established for wheat procurement are under continuous review to ensure a smooth season. So far, approximately 61 lakh metric tons of wheat have arrived at the state markets, with around 57 lakh metric tons already procured.
The minister also highlighted that payments to farmers under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) are being processed swiftly. To date, ₹7,109 crores have been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts, creating a sense of satisfaction among them. He stated that farmers are returning from the markets content after selling their produce, reflecting the success of the government’s policies.
Kataruchak reiterated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s clear promise that every grain will be collected from the markets, with no negligence tolerated. He assured that the administration and party officials are working together to ensure a transparent and organized procurement process. The state government is fully committed to meeting the targets set by the central government.
He also mentioned the track record of the past four years, stating that the Punjab government has successfully managed the wheat procurement season each time, and this year is no exception, continuing the tradition of excellence.
