Protests Erupt in Jaipur Over Rising LPG Prices and Shortages

Jaipur, March 28: The Congress party has targeted the central government over the ongoing LPG crisis in the country. In response to widespread shortages affecting the public, Congress organized a massive protest at the Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur on Friday.

The demonstration was led by Govind Singh Dotasra, President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

Addressing the gathering, Dotasra accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to control inflation, eliminate corruption, create jobs, and strengthen India’s foreign policy, despite promises made before coming to power. He emphasized the need for serious reflection on the current state of the nation.

Dotasra reminded attendees that in 2014, the Prime Minister pledged to provide LPG cylinders to women from below-poverty-line (BPL) families, freeing them from the smoke of traditional stoves. Today, however, the country is grappling with a gas shortage. People are standing in long queues, and industries reliant on cooking gas are struggling.

He criticized BJP leaders for ignoring the hardships faced by the public and merely presenting empty promises.

Dotasra further alleged that the central government lacks a coherent foreign policy and has failed to fulfill significant commitments, including doubling farmers’ incomes. He claimed that the government is merely renaming schemes initiated by previous Congress administrations.

Criticizing the management of the demonetization process, he stated that the Prime Minister had asked for 50 days to eliminate corruption, terrorism, and counterfeit currency, as well as to improve farmers’ incomes. None of these goals have been achieved, he asserted.

Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had warned of an impending crisis, but the central government failed to prepare adequately. He accused the government of causing significant distress due to the sudden nationwide lockdown, which left people struggling for basic necessities.

Dotasra also condemned the rising inflation and fuel shortages, stating that citizens now have to stand in long lines for LPG, CNG, petrol, and diesel. He expressed concern over the burden of rising petrol cylinder prices on ordinary citizens. He further alleged that while the government speaks of long-term plans until 2047, it lacks clarity and strategy for the near future.
