New Delhi, March 28: In a significant move, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved proposals for military equipment purchases worth approximately ₹2.38 lakh crore.
According to the Ministry of Defense, several crucial systems have received approval for the Indian Army, including Air Defense Tracked Systems, Armor-Piercing Tank Ammunition, High-Capacity Radio Relay, Dhanush Gun Systems, and Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance Systems.
The Air Defense Tracked System will provide the army with real-time aerial security and surveillance capabilities, while the High-Capacity Radio Relay will ensure improved and reliable communication.
The Dhanush Gun System will enhance artillery strength, allowing the army to strike more accurately and effectively over long distances. Meanwhile, the Aerial Surveillance System will bolster monitoring capabilities and increase the lethality of tank ammunition.
For the Indian Air Force, approvals have been granted for Medium Transport Aircraft, the S-400 Long Range Air Defense System, Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft, and upgrades for Su-30 engines.
The Medium Transport Aircraft will replace older AN-32 and IL-76 planes, meeting the army’s strategic and operational needs. The S-400 system will protect critical areas from long-range aerial attacks by adversaries.
The Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft will assist the air force in both attack and surveillance roles, while the upgrades to Su-30 engines will extend the aircraft’s lifespan and capabilities.
Additionally, the purchase of Heavy-Duty Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard has been approved. These vehicles will be utilized for patrolling, monitoring, search and rescue operations, and logistical support in coastal areas.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the DAC has approved a total of 55 proposals in the fiscal year 2025-26, amounting to ₹6.73 lakh crore. Furthermore, contracts worth ₹2.28 lakh crore have been signed for 503 defense deals in this fiscal year, marking the highest figure to date.
