Police Clash with Criminals in Dehradun, Two Arrested After Shootout

A police encounter in Dehradun resulted in the arrest of two criminals with a history of offenses. Both were injured during the shootout.

Dehradun, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Late Saturday night, a shootout occurred in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, between police and two armed suspects. The incident took place near Nayagaon in the Patel Nagar area. The suspects, identified as Shameem and Shahzad, both sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. Police recovered two pistols and ammunition from their possession.

The police had been conducting an intensive checking operation in the Patel Nagar area when they attempted to stop a motorcycle with a fake number plate. Instead of halting, the motorcycle sped away toward Budpur, prompting the police to pursue them.

During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, hitting a police vehicle and causing damage. In response, the police returned fire, resulting in both suspects being injured. They were promptly taken to Prem Nagar Hospital for treatment.

Senior police officials arrived at the scene to assess the situation and later visited the hospital for updates on the suspects. A forensic science team also examined the site to gather evidence.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects admitted to being involved in multiple burglary incidents in the Patel Nagar, Vikas Nagar, and Sahaspur areas. They were reportedly out to commit further crimes at the time of the encounter, although these claims are still being verified.

Shameem, son of Ilyas, and Shahzad, son of Ikhlaq, are both residents of Roorkee in Haridwar district. Shameem has over a dozen criminal cases against him, while Shahzad also has several charges filed. Both have previously served time in Haridwar jail and have been prosecuted under the Gangster Act.
