Prime Minister Modi to Launch Election Campaign in Kerala from Thrissur

Kochi, March 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off his election campaign in Kerala from Thrissur on March 29. This move is expected to provide a significant boost to the NDA’s campaign efforts led by the BJP.

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the election campaign of Padmaja Venugopal, the BJP candidate and daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Karunakaran. The campaign will include a roadshow.

Padmaja has previously contested from the Thrissur seat as a Congress candidate in 2016 and 2021, finishing in second place both times. Ahead of the May 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she joined the BJP and campaigned for actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi, who eventually became an MP.

Interestingly, in the 2021 assembly elections, Gopi finished third behind Padmaja. Party sources indicate that the Prime Minister may make a brief stop in Palakkad before reaching Thrissur. However, the official travel details have yet to be confirmed.

The Prime Minister’s visit aims to energize the party’s prospects in a constituency that has garnered significant political attention in recent election cycles. Modi and Padmaja are expected to share the stage during the roadshow, which is being presented as a major campaign event for the NDA in central Kerala.

Padmaja Venugopal’s candidacy has already added political excitement to the election, given her background and the changing electoral dynamics in the constituency. The Prime Minister’s presence is anticipated to further accelerate the campaign, as the BJP seeks to expand its influence in areas traditionally dominated by the LDF and UDF.

With only a few days left until voting, the presence of national leaders in Kerala is also on the rise. Modi’s visit is considered part of the BJP’s broader strategy to enhance electoral prospects by showcasing strength.

More clarity regarding the Prime Minister’s schedule is expected in the coming days.
