Jammu, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the preservation of history, sacred knowledge, and religious values is vital for any nation’s lifeblood. He emphasized that a nation that forgets its heritage loses its foundation, while one that respects and protects its roots instills confidence, resilience, and a strong identity in future generations.
On Sunday, Sinha inaugurated projects aimed at preserving, restoring, and developing ancient religious and cultural sites in the Samba district, specifically in Purmandal and Uttarwahini. The projects will allocate ₹7.15 crore for Purmandal and ₹6.85 crore for Uttarwahini.
Addressing the occasion, Sinha remarked that these initiatives go beyond mere repairs of bricks and stones; they aim to connect India’s glorious past with a brighter future. He noted that Purmandal, located along the sacred Devika River, has long been a center for saints, sages, and spiritual seekers. The ancient temples, stone carvings, holy pools, and historic structures here exemplify exceptional architecture and artistry, though their condition has deteriorated due to neglect over time.
Sinha explained that the preservation of the ancient Lakshmi Narayan temple, the Shiva temple, and the Ram temple in Purmandal, along with the historic temple complexes in Uttarwahini, will integrate modern technology with traditional architectural styles.
He asserted that these projects will position Jammu and Kashmir as a major hub for spiritual and cultural tourism. Improved roads, lighting, and other infrastructures will facilitate easier access for pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi, Shivkhori, Raghunath Temple, and Baba Amarnath to Purmandal and Uttarwahini.
Sinha highlighted that heritage tourism would boost local handicrafts, hospitality, homestays, transport, and food businesses, creating job opportunities for youth and new avenues for small entrepreneurs.
He stressed that preserving cultural identity is as crucial to India’s development journey as building highways, digital networks, and industrial corridors. According to him, physical development accelerates regional growth, while cultural heritage provides society with direction and soul.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated his commitment to strengthening road connectivity to Purmandal and praised the Samba district administration for providing land for the establishment of the Mata Devika Veda Pathshala. He announced that funds for its construction would soon be approved through the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
During the event, Sinha also launched the GCC Gurha Salathia magazine. The ceremony was attended by MLA Chandra Prakash Ganga, Principal Secretary of the Culture Department Brij Mohan Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, along with several senior officials, religious representatives, and a large number of devotees.
