Mumbai, March 4: In recent times, OTT platforms have seen a surge in stories that candidly address sensitive societal issues. The newly released film ‘Accused’ is one such narrative that has compelled audiences to reflect. Actress Pratibha Ranta’s performance has garnered significant praise, and she has shared insights into her preparation for the complex character she portrays.
Pratibha Ranta revealed that preparing for this role was no easy feat. She stated, “First, I read the script multiple times. Repeated readings helped me better understand the character’s thoughts and emotions. Until an artist comprehends their character from within, their performance remains incomplete. Therefore, I made reading sessions a crucial part of my preparation.”
She further explained, “I conducted several workshops with director Anubhuti Kashyap and co-star Konkona Sen Sharma. We delved deeply into specific scenes. When the three of us sat together to discuss the nuances of a scene, it clarified any questions that arose. This understanding helped me know the mental state I needed to maintain when stepping in front of the camera and the direction the scene should take.”
Pratibha added, “The atmosphere during shooting was quite relaxed. Once on set, actors often experiment with scenes. When you immerse yourself in the character’s emotions, many things naturally come to light. Sometimes, improvisation makes a scene even more impactful. This happened several times in the film, where scenes felt so real they seemed part of someone’s actual life.”
The story of ‘Accused’ revolves around a woman accused of sexual harassment. This sensitive topic sparks various debates within society. The film seriously portrays the clash of accusations, truth, and emotions, featuring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta in lead roles.
Pratibha expressed, “This role was special to me because it had many layers of emotion. At times, she appears strong, and at other times, she seems broken. Being mentally prepared is essential for portraying such characters. Reading and workshops were instrumental in helping me understand the layers of my role.”
‘Accused’ is now available for streaming on the OTT platform Netflix.
