Narakatiyaganj, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in Narakatiyaganj, West Champaran, where a 25-year-old pregnant woman died during treatment at a private clinic on Saturday. The death of Salma Khatun, wife of Riaz Ahmed, has triggered protests from her family and local residents, who accuse the clinic management of medical negligence.
Salma, a resident of Ghodpakri village under the Inarwa police station, was approximately five months pregnant when she was admitted to Shukla Clinic in Old Market after learning of the fetus’s demise. Her family reported that she was brought in for a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure.
Initially, the clinic quoted a fee of ₹14,000, of which ₹11,000 was paid upfront. However, the family claims that the doctor later deemed the D&C procedure unsafe and recommended surgery instead, demanding an additional ₹25,000.
After agreeing to the surgery, Salma was taken for the operation. Reports indicate that her condition deteriorated during the procedure, leading to her eventual death. Following the incident, the clinic management allegedly suggested transporting her body by ambulance rather than addressing the situation directly. Eyewitnesses reported that clinic staff fled the premises after the incident.
The news of her death ignited outrage among family members and local residents, who gathered outside the clinic demanding accountability. Police and emergency response teams arrived at the scene to manage the situation and gather information from those present.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salma’s death and the allegations against the clinic. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, the deputy superintendent in charge of the sub-district hospital, confirmed that officials have been notified and appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
