Political Tensions Rise in Uttar Pradesh Ahead of 2027 Elections
As the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections approach, political figures raise concerns about voter manipulation and party alliances.

Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Political activity is intensifying in Uttar Pradesh as the 2027 assembly elections draw closer. Discussions are swirling around the recent meeting between Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and fellow party member Azam Khan, alongside the increasing presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in the state’s political landscape. In this context, Naseem Siddiqui, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party, has urged the public to remain vigilant regarding Owaisi’s political maneuvers, labeling his party as the “B team” of the BJP and accusing them of attempting to divide Muslim votes.
In an interview, Siddiqui referenced the meeting between Yadav and Khan, noting Khan’s seniority and his close ties to former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. He criticized the emotional issues being raised to sway Muslim voters and warned that citizens should be cautious, citing the recent elections in Bihar and West Bengal as examples.
Siddiqui also discussed the potential alliance between Congress and the Samajwadi Party, emphasizing that they must collaborate to effectively challenge the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He argued that the Samajwadi Party has a strong political foothold in the state, suggesting Congress should accept a junior role in the coalition. He warned that if Congress contests independently, it may struggle to achieve significant success, potentially winning only two to four seats, which would not suffice to make a substantial impact.
On the topic of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati’s electoral strategy, Siddiqui stated it is too early to predict her moves but expressed hope that she would align with the opposition coalition against the BJP.
Siddiqui raised concerns about discrepancies in the voter list during the upcoming MLC elections, criticizing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleging that the central government is attempting to shield him.
Addressing issues related to protests and foreign interference, Siddiqui asserted that the nature of movements in India will be determined by the people, the Constitution, and Parliament. He emphasized that India, rooted in Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, should see peaceful protests, countering narratives that portray these movements as chaotic.
In a separate vein, Siddiqui criticized the government regarding the case of film star Tiger Shroff, questioning the progress of the investigation into the murder of Baba Siddiqui. He urged authorities to focus on apprehending the mastermind behind the crime rather than just a few suspects.
Regarding the controversy surrounding Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s son, Rehan Vadra, Siddiqui defended the right to freedom of expression, suggesting that he is being targeted due to his familial and political connections.
He concluded by stressing that laws should serve the public interest rather than being manipulated to include or exclude individuals arbitrarily. Meanwhile, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai echoed concerns about the Special Intensive Review of the voter list, alleging it facilitates vote theft, and supported calls for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
