Chennai, March 29: As the Tamil Nadu assembly elections approach, Chennai has emerged as a pivotal political battleground. The ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK are gearing up for a fierce contest.
Both parties are set to face off in 12 out of the 16 assembly seats in Chennai, indicating the strategic importance they place on securing a stronghold in the metropolitan area.
Key constituencies such as Kolathur, RK Nagar, Villivakkam, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Egmore, Royapuram, Harbour, Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, Thousand Lights, Anna Nagar, Virugambakkam, and T Nagar are expected to witness direct clashes between DMK and AIADMK. These regions are politically significant, featuring diverse demographics and a strong party presence.
In other constituencies, the electoral landscape appears more fragmented, influenced by coalition structures and regional parties. In Mylapore, DMK is likely to face the AIADMK-BJP alliance, reflecting the broader coalition dynamics in the state. In Perambur, a contest against PMK is anticipated, while AMMK may emerge as a significant challenger in Saidapet, adding another layer of competition.
Similar trends are observed in major districts like Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, and Salem, where direct contests between DMK and AIADMK are expected. Just like in the capital, these areas will likely see vigorous campaigning and strategic mobilization from both parties.
At the state level, DMK and AIADMK are set to compete against each other in approximately 121 constituencies, further intensifying their central rivalry in the elections. Additionally, DMK is expected to face a direct contest with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in around 18 constituencies, leading to multi-faceted competition in several regions.
With the election campaign gaining momentum, Chennai remains the focal point of political attention. Parties are ramping up efforts to reach urban voters, and the election results in the city could play a crucial role in determining the power balance in Tamil Nadu.
