Political Tensions Loom Over Davanagere By-Election, Says Bommai

Mumbai, March 27: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai stated on Friday that the people are feeling “disillusioned” with the state government’s two-and-a-half-year rule. He emphasized that the power struggle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will cast a shadow over the upcoming Davanagere by-election. Bommai believes that a BJP victory in this election will alter Karnataka’s political landscape in the days to come.

During a press conference at the BJP office in Davanagere, he remarked that the by-election has arisen unexpectedly, following numerous political developments over the past two and a half years. He noted that the public is disappointed and feels that the government is ineffective across various sectors.

Bommai accused the government of being anti-farmer and claimed that the common people’s issues are being ignored. He stressed the need for a closer examination of development, citing widespread corruption that is causing struggles for ordinary citizens.

He pointed out that in the last election, Congress campaigned on issues related to Ahinda and caste census. Bommai criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for exploiting Ahinda communities for political gain without providing them any real benefits. He alleged that the government has misused these communities and is now unwilling to confront them, despite maintaining an air of arrogance.

Criticizing Siddaramaiah’s recent budget presentation, Bommai labeled it a “bundle of lies,” accusing the Chief Minister of adhering to the notion that repeating a lie loudly makes it seem true.

Questioning the state government’s contributions over the past two and a half years, Bommai stated that the ₹900 crore received under the Smart City project came from the central government, not the state. He further claimed that there has been no significant development.

He described Davanagere as a vital commercial hub in central Karnataka with a rich history, yet lamented the lack of visible development in urban areas.

Bommai noted that a new social coalition is emerging in Davanagere. He asserted that the voter base once considered loyal to Congress is no longer intact, predicting social restructuring and political polarization. He insisted that a BJP victory in the by-election will reshape Karnataka’s political direction.

In response to Siddaramaiah’s statement about a Muslim candidate defeating Bommai’s son in Shiggaon by a margin of 12,000 votes, Bommai alleged that significant money was used and conspiracies were hatched to influence the outcome. He claimed that nearly 8,000 votes were swayed by bringing in voters from neighboring constituencies and influencing certain officials.

He concluded by stating that the public is now fully aware, and discussions about Siddaramaiah’s “unstable chair” are ongoing. The ongoing conflict between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will impact the Davanagere by-election, leading to a certain BJP victory this time.
