Congress Fields Pradeep Prasad from Bhawanipur in Bengal Elections

Kolkata, March 30: In the lead-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Congress Party announced candidates for 284 assembly seats on Sunday. Among the most contested seats is Bhawanipur, where Congress has nominated Pradeep Prasad. This constituency sees competition from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari, raising expectations for a triangular contest.

After receiving the ticket, Pradeep Prasad expressed gratitude to the party’s top leadership. He stated, “Mamata Banerjee’s home is in Bhawanipur, and so is mine. I am not an outsider. For 15 years, Mamata Banerjee has exploited West Bengal. Our movement against her has been ongoing for 365 days. Now, our fight is for West Bengal. Congress workers are battling against Mamata Banerjee in every corner of the state.”

On the matter of contesting the assembly elections, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury remarked, “I am a soldier of the party. The high command directed that all senior leaders in Bengal should contest. I thought, why not participate in the elections? Given the challenging situation, I felt it was essential to step down and fight to assist the party.”

He added, “Elections are not conducted properly, but I have a habit of fighting. I have spent so many years battling, and I will continue to do so.”

It is noteworthy that senior leaders of the Congress Party have already announced that they will not form an alliance with the TMC for the assembly elections. The party’s list clarifies that they will contest the elections based on their ideology.

West Bengal has a total of 294 assembly seats. Voting will occur in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
