Police Crackdown on Misinformation After Labor Protests in Noida

Noida, April 15: Following recent labor protests in Noida, police have adopted a stringent approach against individuals spreading misleading and inflammatory content on social media. So far, three separate FIRs have been filed against six individuals, including members affiliated with various political parties.

According to police reports, two national spokespersons from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Priyanka Bharti and Kanchana Yadav, are facing legal action. They are accused of sharing an old or unrelated video as if it were from Noida, which has created an atmosphere of fear and distrust in different areas of the city.

Authorities believe this act was premeditated, aimed at tarnishing the police’s image and inciting public unrest. The police have charged them under Section 353(1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 66 and 66D of the Information Technology Act.

Officials assert that such misleading narratives severely impact law and order. Another FIR has been registered at the Sector 20 police station, naming Anushi Tiwari and Meer Ilyasi, who are reportedly linked to the Congress party.

Anushi Tiwari allegedly claimed on social media that 14 people were killed and 32 injured due to police firing in Noida. The police have categorically dismissed this claim as false and misleading. They stated that such posts have heightened tensions in the city, leading to incidents of arson and vandalism in some areas.

Authorities have made it clear that these misleading posts have played a significant role in disrupting law and order. Noida police have urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information on social media and to rely solely on official sources. They also warned that strict action against those spreading rumors will continue.
