New Delhi, August 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a one-day tour of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka today. The visit aims to accelerate regional and economic development through the inauguration and foundation-laying of several infrastructure, connectivity, energy, and technology projects.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport located in Bhogapuram. Developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, this greenfield airport has an investment of over ₹5,640 crores and is designed to handle 6 million passengers annually. It is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, investment, and job creation while enhancing air connectivity across the region.
Before his trip, PM Modi shared a message on the social media platform X, highlighting the importance of the new airport: “The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, Andhra Pradesh, will be inaugurated. This modern, forward-looking airport will promote connectivity, trade, and tourism. Additionally, the project adheres to principles of sustainability and energy efficiency.”
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the ASIP semiconductor project in Visakhapatnam. This will be Andhra Pradesh’s first semiconductor manufacturing center, approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. With an investment of ₹460 crores, the center is expected to produce approximately 96 million semiconductor chips annually, create high-skilled job opportunities, and help establish a robust ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturing in the state.
In the renewable energy sector, PM Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the transmission system for the Kurnool-IV renewable energy zone (4.5 gigawatts). This project, implemented through a special purpose vehicle by Powergrid, involves an investment of ₹5,550 crores.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the transmission systems for the Kurnool wind energy zone and solar energy sector in Andhra Pradesh, developed at a cost of ₹3,550 crores. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for a transmission plan costing ₹820 crores for solar energy in Anantapur (2,500 megawatts) and Kurnool (1,000 megawatts). These projects will facilitate the delivery of renewable energy produced in Kurnool and Anantapur to beneficiaries across the national grid.
PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for national highway projects worth ₹1,880 crores. Key projects include a four-lane greenfield highway between Recherla to Guruvayagudem on NH-365BG and a bypass at Tadipatri on NH-67. He will also lay the foundation stone for a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona-Erapedu section of NH-565.
These projects are expected to reduce traffic pressure in Vijayawada and other urban centers, improve road safety, decrease travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, and strengthen regional connectivity.
After his engagements in Andhra Pradesh, PM Modi will travel to Mysuru, Karnataka, where he will inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Center and address a public gathering.
