Delhi Launches Laxmi Scheme: Financial Aid of ₹2,500 for Women

New Delhi, August 1: The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has officially launched the ‘Delhi Laxmi Scheme’ on Saturday. This initiative aims to provide eligible women with a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500.

In a post on X, CM Rekha Gupta announced, “A new chapter of dignity begins for women in Delhi from August 1. The online registration portal for the Delhi Laxmi Scheme is now open.”

For many women, this assistance will serve as their first savings, covering essential needs such as medicine, books, or household items. It symbolizes independence, allowing them to meet their needs without relying on others.

The Chief Minister emphasized, “Under the Delhi Laxmi Scheme, every eligible woman will receive a monthly financial support of ₹2,500. This amount will not just be deposited into their accounts; it will instill confidence, enhance decision-making power, and empower them to live life on their own terms. All eligible women must register on the official Delhi government website.”

This scheme is part of the government’s broader welfare initiatives aimed at providing financial support to economically weaker families in the national capital.

To implement this scheme, the Delhi government has allocated ₹5,110 crores in its 2026-27 budget. Officials estimate that once fully operational, over 1.7 million women across Delhi will benefit from it.

Eligibility criteria include women aged 21 to 60 whose family’s annual income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakhs. Notably, women who pay income tax, file GST, are government employees, or are already receiving assistance from other government schemes will not qualify.

Additionally, families owning a four-wheeler, consuming over 2,400 units of electricity annually, or having members employed in government departments or public sector undertakings (PSUs) will also be excluded from this scheme.

Women with more than three children or a criminal record will not be eligible for the ‘Delhi Laxmi Scheme.’ The scheme offers two options for beneficiaries to receive financial aid.

The first option allows ₹1,500 to be deposited monthly into a recurring deposit (RD) or fixed deposit (FD) account, while the remaining ₹1,000 will be credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet, which can be used for approved essential purchases.

Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to receive the entire ₹2,500 monthly assistance directly into their RD or FD account instead of splitting it between the bank account and CBDC wallet.

In addition to direct financial support, the Delhi Laxmi Scheme aims to promote various social welfare goals. These include encouraging school admissions, facilitating the ‘Aapar’ scheme and ‘Abha’ ID creation, ensuring timely vaccinations, registering on the ‘Poshan’ tracker, participating in campaigns like ‘One Tree for Mother’ and the Clean India Mission, and motivating women to join self-help groups and skill development programs. Applications will be processed through a dedicated Delhi Laxmi Scheme portal.
