New Delhi, March 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crucial video conference on Friday with Chief Ministers of all states and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories to address the emerging crisis in West Asia. The meeting focused on reviewing the current situation and discussing the country’s preparedness, supply chains, energy security, and the protection of citizens’ interests.
The Prime Minister praised the suggestions made by the Chief Ministers, stating that these inputs would aid in effectively confronting the changing circumstances. He emphasized that vigilance, preparedness, and improved coordination between the central and state governments are vital strengths in tackling this challenge.
Modi noted that India has faced global crises before, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as an example. During that time, the central and state governments worked together as “Team India,” which helped mitigate the impact on supply chains, trade, and daily life. He reiterated that this spirit of cooperation remains the country’s greatest asset today.
He mentioned that the situation is continuously evolving, necessitating ongoing monitoring and flexibility in strategy. Since March 3, an inter-ministerial group has been reviewing the situation daily and making timely decisions. The government’s priorities include economic stability, trade, energy security, citizen safety, and strengthening industries.
The Prime Minister stressed that effective policy implementation occurs at the state level, making continuous dialogue and coordination between the center and states essential. He instructed states to maintain smooth supply chains and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering. He also emphasized the need to activate control rooms at state and district levels, keep the administration alert, and ensure the availability of essential goods.
Highlighting the need for proactive planning in the agricultural sector, he called for monitoring the storage and distribution of fertilizers to prevent any issues for farmers in the upcoming Kharif season.
Modi warned that during such times, rumors and misinformation can spread rapidly, creating panic. He stressed the importance of delivering accurate and reliable information to the public promptly and advised vigilance against online scams and fake agents.
He urged border and coastal states to remain particularly alert to address any potential threats related to shipping, essential supplies, and maritime activities.
The Prime Minister instructed states with citizens in West Asia to establish helplines, appoint nodal officers, and develop support systems at the district level to provide timely information and assistance to affected families.
He also emphasized long-term preparations, focusing on biofuels, solar energy, the Gobardhan scheme, electric mobility, and the expansion of piped natural gas. Additionally, he highlighted the need for states to collaborate to increase domestic production of oil and natural gas.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, present at the meeting, stated that the government is actively working under the Prime Minister’s leadership to address this crisis. He mentioned measures taken to ensure the availability of LPG and reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel.
The Chief Ministers expressed confidence in the adequate availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the country, with the supply chain under constant monitoring. They welcomed the decision to reduce excise duty on fuel, noting it would provide relief to the public.
The Chief Ministers also appreciated the central government’s increase in the allocation of commercial LPG to 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, up from 50 percent. They reiterated their commitment to working together with the central government.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister stated that this challenge is a shared responsibility, and as “Team India,” the nation will successfully navigate through this situation.
