Stockholm, May 17: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sweden on Sunday. He was warmly welcomed at Gothenburg Airport by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Modi shared a video on social media showcasing the enthusiastic Indian community gathered at the airport, chanting “Modi Modi” and “Jai Shri Ram.” The Prime Minister was seen greeting them with both hands raised.
In his post on the platform X, Modi expressed that the love and affection from the Indian community in Gothenburg was truly uplifting. He highlighted their deep connection with India and the pride in their contribution to strengthening India-Sweden relations.
PM Modi will be in Sweden on Sunday and Monday at the invitation of Prime Minister Kristersson. During the visit, both leaders will review bilateral relations and discuss enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and new technologies.
Bilateral trade between India and Sweden reached $7.75 billion in 2025. The focus will be on strengthening partnerships in environmentally friendly technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, defense, space, and climate change.
According to India’s Ambassador to Sweden, Anurag Bhushan, Modi’s visit is crucial for strengthening mutual relations, increasing cooperation, and deepening people-to-people connections. Bhushan noted that the Indian community in Sweden is very excited about this visit, which is expected to enhance cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
He added that the Prime Minister will engage in bilateral consultations with Kristersson and his leadership team. Following this, Modi will also meet with Sweden’s business community and address members of the European Roundtable of Industry, a group comprising top companies in Europe.
