Auckland, July 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised New Zealand‘s strengths during the grand ‘Kia Ora Modi’ event for the Indian community. He expressed admiration for the nation’s commitment to its roots and its ambition to change the world, stating, “We have learned a lot from New Zealand.”
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the journey between India and New Zealand. He remarked, “The relationship between India and New Zealand is filled with memories, friendship, values, and commitment. New Zealand’s beautiful traditions define it well. The word ‘waka’ has connected people for centuries. It symbolizes our shared journey, ready to embark on a new adventure. An ocean full of opportunities lies ahead, with winds and waves in our favor. The blue sky of willpower is with us. There is much to gain, and I know we will succeed.”
PM Modi further emphasized India’s ancient civilization, which embraces modernity while preserving its heritage. “Throughout history, India has transformed itself, driven by a thirst for knowledge. India learns from everyone,” he noted.
He also spoke about the qualities that make New Zealand unique. “For us, it is not the population of a country that matters, but the spirit of welfare. We have learned and continue to learn from New Zealand. This is the country that first granted women the right to vote. Today, we see women contributing significantly to society. India is also opening new doors of opportunity for women.”
The Prime Minister praised New Zealand’s rural economy, stating, “New Zealand has demonstrated how rural economies can change a country’s destiny. Its strength is built around agriculture, creating a robust ecosystem. This serves as a great inspiration for India, a large agricultural nation with many small farmers. New Zealand has shown that small markets can become big brands.”
