New Delhi, April 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Saturday following the rejection of the constitutional amendment bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha. He expressed his regret that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act could not be passed in the Lok Sabha.
In response, the BJP and its allies targeted the opposition. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta stated in an interview that the opposition has been completely exposed. He accused them of stripping women of their rights and asserted that the public would teach them a lesson. Gupta emphasized, “PM Modi’s sentiments are hurt, but he will not give up. The women of the country will hold the opposition accountable.”
He further asserted that PM Modi’s feelings resonate with the women of the nation. The Modi government has implemented significant initiatives for women, including the Ujjwala Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. Gupta claimed that no other government has made as many efforts for women’s rights as the Modi administration has. He accused the opposition of depriving women of their rights in their quest to settle scores with PM Modi.
Shobha Gupta, a BJP leader and wife of Vijender Gupta, reacted to the Prime Minister’s address, stating that it felt as if a father was expressing despair and anger over his daughters being denied their rights. However, she concluded that PM Modi would never let the dignity of his daughters be diminished. Shobha Gupta affirmed that PM Modi is steadfast in his commitment to women’s respect and rights.
Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha expressed deep sorrow over the bill’s failure to pass. He remarked, “This bill would have brought pride to the nation. It would have elevated the respect for women’s power on the soil of democracy, but Congress, RJD, SP, and the Communists have misled the people. They have created an environment that undermines the rights of mothers and daughters. This is a crime against women, and those with such a criminal mindset will never be forgiven by the women of this country.”
BJP Bihar President Sanjay Sarawagi welcomed the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, stating, “PM Modi reiterated his commitment to increasing women’s representation in assemblies and the Lok Sabha, and to removing every obstacle in the path of women’s reservation.”
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla noted that the world knows PM Modi’s strong will. He stated that if an action benefits society and the nation, no force can stop it for long. The women’s reservation bill was presented clearly, and the proposed amendments posed no threat to any region.
He added, “This was an opportunity for the opposition to support the bill and address their concerns. Home Minister Amit Shah even suggested that if they wanted to increase the 33% reservation to 50%, the house could be adjourned for an hour, and the government was ready to bring an amendment for 50% reservation. Yet, the opposition did not respond.”
Madhya Pradesh Minister Prahlad Singh Patel from Damoh remarked that the Congress has always been characterized by self-serving and family-oriented politics. He quoted Atal Bihari Vajpayee, stating that the party is greater than the individual, and the nation is greater than the party. The BJP never prioritizes personal interests.
BJP State President Ramchandra Rao from Hyderabad commented that the Prime Minister addressed the nation with great sorrow. He accused the Congress and the India alliance of blocking the women’s bill and claimed they view it as a victory, forgetting that they have crushed the rights of 50% of the country’s population.
