PM Modi Consoles Sharad Pawar After Ajit Pawar’s Tragic Death

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Maharashtra senior leader Sharad Pawar on Wednesday following the tragic death of his nephew and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash near Baramati.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. Ajit Pawar’s last rites are scheduled for Thursday in Baramati. It is expected that PM Modi along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the funeral.

On social media platform X, PM Modi posted, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic plane accident in Baramati, Maharashtra. I share the grief of those who have lost their loved ones in this incident. I pray that the grieving families find strength and courage during this difficult time.”

The news of Ajit Pawar’s death has sent waves of sorrow through Maharashtra’s political circles, with many senior leaders calling it a “black day” for the state.

Meanwhile, disturbing details about the final moments before the crash have emerged. The crew of the Learjet 45 reportedly informed air traffic control that the runway was not visible. Seconds before and after receiving landing clearance, a fire broke out near the runway.

In this fatal accident at Baramati airport, five people, including Ajit Pawar and two pilots, lost their lives. Ajit Pawar was scheduled to attend a public event in Baramati on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the aircraft operated by VSR Ventures Private Limited made first contact with Baramati airport at 8:18 am.

The Ministry stated that Baramati is an uncontrolled airport where local flight training organisations’ instructors and pilots provide traffic information.

The statement added, “At approximately 30 nautical miles from Baramati, the aircraft was released by Pune Approach Control and advised to descend under visual meteorological conditions at the crew’s discretion.”

Later, the pilots requested details about wind and visibility and were informed that the wind was calm and visibility about 3,000 metres.

Shortly after, the aircraft reported being on final approach to runway 11 but indicated the runway was not visible. The crew executed a go-around and repositioned for a second approach.

During the second attempt, the crew again reported being on final approach. When asked to confirm visual contact, they replied, “Runway not visible yet. Will call when visible.” Seconds later, they confirmed the runway was visible.

At 8:43 am, the aircraft was cleared to land on runway 11; however, no landing clearance acknowledgement was received. At 8:44 am, airport personnel saw flames near the runway. Emergency services arrived at the scene, which was near the left threshold of runway 11, where wreckage was found.
