PM Modi Arrives in Slovakia, Welcomed with Traditional Bread and Salt

Bratislava, June 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, on Sunday. He was warmly welcomed by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár at the Grand Hotel River Park, where he was greeted in the traditional Slovak manner with bread and salt.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi expressed that this visit provides an opportunity to deepen India-Slovakia relations and explore new avenues for cooperation. He also mentioned his anticipation for productive meetings with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “I have reached Bratislava. This visit offers a chance to strengthen India-Slovakia relations and seek new paths for collaboration. I look forward to productive meetings with President Pellegrini and Prime Minister Fico.”

At the Grand Hotel River Park, the Luknica Ensemble warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi. According to Slovak culture, guests and dignitaries are traditionally welcomed with a small dish of bread and salt. Bread symbolizes prosperity, while salt represents value, friendship, and security.

The famous children’s folk group from the Myjava region of Slovakia also performed traditional Slovak dances to honor Prime Minister Modi. Additionally, the Luknica Ensemble presented a special performance of “Vande Mataram.” He also witnessed a spiritual performance by the Slovakian musical group Mahadev Kirtan Project.

PM Modi met with members of the Indian community in Bratislava, who warmly welcomed him upon his arrival at the Grand Hotel River Park.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, “PM Modi has arrived in Slovakia. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence, marking a historic milestone in India-Slovakia relations. Upon his arrival at the hotel, he was welcomed by the Slovak Republic’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár, with the traditional Slovak gesture of hospitality, bread and salt. This visit will strengthen the ties between the two countries and open new pathways for partnership.”

Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day official visit to the European nation, emphasizing that this trip aims to deepen India-Slovakia relations and explore new avenues for collaboration.
