New Delhi, April 15: BJD MP Sasmita Patra stated in an interview that Prime Minister Modi’s 40-minute discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump on West Asian issues was significant. The talks focused on India-U.S. relations and energy security to meet India’s stable energy needs.
Patra noted that the conversation likely touched on the ongoing conflicts in West Asia. There was also discussion about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for ensuring energy security. Currently, supplies through this route are blocked, and securing them was a key topic.
She emphasized the importance of such discussions, especially since approximately 20% of India’s oil and nearly 60% of its natural gas transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, this strait holds immense significance for India. The dialogue between PM Modi and President Trump was indeed crucial.
Patra mentioned that discussions are ongoing. So far, the first phase of talks between the U.S. and Iran has not yielded meaningful results. Efforts are being made for a second phase of negotiations. She indicated that negotiations between the U.S. and Iran would resume, and India needs to work further on energy security.
Additionally, U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gore welcomed any countries, including India, that are willing to assist in resolving the ongoing conflicts in West Asia. He stated that President Trump does not discriminate against any nation that can contribute to ending these conflicts.
