New Delhi, April 21: The Drug Control Department of the Delhi government has conducted a successful enforcement operation against illegal drug sales in Shahdara. Acting on a tip-off regarding the unlawful sale of medicines without a valid license, a team of drug inspectors raided a facility located in Rashid Market, Khureji Village, Shahdara.
Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh stated, “The Delhi government is committed to ensuring public health safety and compliance with the law in drug sales. Any violations, especially illegal sales or distribution of medicines, will face strict action. We urge all stakeholders to adhere to regulatory standards and encourage citizens to report any irregularities.”
During the operation, an undercover customer was sent in, who confirmed illegal sales by purchasing several medicines without a prescription or cash memo. Inspectors found the facility engaged in the illegal sale and operation of drugs.
Further investigations revealed that the facility had previously operated under a valid drug license, which was revoked by the competent authority in September 2024. Despite this, the facility continued to store and sell medicines, violating legal provisions.
A total of 104 types of medicines intended for sale and distribution were seized during the raid. Additionally, 23 expired drug items were recovered from the premises. Samples of the selected medicines were taken for quality testing, and the marked currency used in the undercover operation was also confiscated from the accused. The individual could not present any valid drug license for sale, storage, or distribution, confirming a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The entire search and seizure operation was conducted following legal procedures, including videography and proper documentation, to ensure the integrity of the evidence. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the seized medicines and to pursue stringent legal action against all involved parties.
The Drug Control Department reiterated its commitment to public health and safety, issuing a stern warning to those engaged in illegal drug sales and distribution.
