
New Delhi, May 14: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of leveraging India’s expanding Free Trade Agreement (FTA) network during a meeting with over 1,000 representatives from industry associations on Wednesday.
In a post on ‘X’, the minister highlighted the need for early preparation, exploring new markets, strengthening ‘Brand India’, improving quality and productivity, and becoming more competitive globally.
Goyal stated, “Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, I urged the industry to transform global challenges into opportunities through collective national efforts focused on innovation, energy efficiency, improved logistics, R&D, and building a robust export ecosystem to realize the ‘Developed India 2047’ vision.”
Earlier, the minister chaired the ‘India-Chile Business Roundtable’ alongside Chile’s Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna, Undersecretary for International Economic Relations Paula Estévez, and other prominent business leaders from both countries.
The discussions centered on the vast potential of the India-Chile partnership, which spans critical minerals, food processing, healthcare, clean energy, technology transfer, and several emerging sectors.
Goyal remarked, “We discussed many exciting opportunities for collaboration under the India-Chile CEPA; this agreement will deepen our bilateral relations and open new avenues for growth in various sectors for our businesses and people.”
Additionally, the minister highlighted key government achievements over the past ten days, including export promotion initiatives, progress in FTA negotiations, and discussions with global companies aimed at strengthening manufacturing investment in India.
In a post on ‘X’, he noted that honey produced under Assam’s ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative has been exported to the United States for the first time. Meanwhile, India and Canada successfully completed the second round of negotiations for the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
He also emphasized that the government has engaged with industry leaders from global companies like Airbus, L’Oréal Group, Carrier, and LVMH to deepen investment in India and strengthen the manufacturing sector.
According to the minister, the government has held significant meetings to review the progress of India’s FTAs, export promotion strategies, and approvals related to ‘Sanitary and Phytosanitary’ (SPS) measures aimed at enhancing global market access for Indian agricultural and fishery products.
