Toronto, May 27: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the inaugural ministerial session titled “From Political Realignment to Commercial Outcomes” in Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday.
Speaking in the presence of Canada’s International Trade Minister, Mary Ng, Goyal highlighted India’s ongoing efforts to create a business-friendly environment and ease of doing business. He invited Canadian business and industrial leaders to actively participate in India’s growth narrative.
Goyal emphasized the significance of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as a crucial catalyst for enhancing trade and investment relations, while also opening new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
He expressed confidence that the next chapter of the India-Canada economic partnership would progress reliably, contributing to the prosperity of both nations.
The government announced that following high-level trade discussions in Ottawa, Goyal led a major program of industry roundtables and B2B meetings in Toronto. The aim is to transform ministerial commitments into concrete commercial partnerships in key sectors.
This visit builds on the groundwork laid during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to New Delhi in March 2026, furthering the ongoing high-level engagement between the two countries since mid-2025.
Currently, bilateral trade between India and Canada stands at approximately $8.5 billion, with both governments setting an ambitious target to increase it to $50 billion by 2030.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Goyal is leading the largest-ever Indian business delegation to Canada, which includes industrial leaders from over 100 companies. This marks a significant step towards revitalizing India-Canada economic relations.
The ministry further stated that the three-day visit aims to advance bilateral trade and economic ties, with a particular focus on accelerating negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
