Mumbai, September 1: Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) announced on Tuesday that it has earned the distinction of having the highest ESG score globally in the utilities sector, following a recent review by S&P Global.
The company stated that it improved its governance-related assessment, which had previously faced adverse impacts, after the completion of S&P Global’s recent Media and Stakeholder Analysis (MSA) review. This has led to a significant enhancement in the company’s ESG standing.
As India’s largest private transmission and distribution company, AESL achieved an impressive ESG score of 90 out of 100, placing it at the top of the global utilities sector. In contrast, the industry average score stands at 41.
Before this review, AESL’s ESG score was 81. The Adani Group company noted a year-on-year improvement of 17 points in its disclosure-based Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) score, which has now risen to 90.
Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, expressed pride in the recognition as the utility company with the highest global ESG score, emphasizing it as a strong affirmation of their commitment to sustainable development.
He added, “Sustainability is integrated into our daily decision-making processes at AESL. This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams across the organization, who continuously work to enhance environmental performance, social impact, governance standards, and disclosure processes.”
AESL has performed strongly across all three dimensions of ESG. The company received scores of 93 in environmental, 89 in social, and 84 in governance and economic aspects, significantly exceeding industry averages.
According to the company, AESL’s performance has been bolstered by effective product management, climate strategy, and human capital management.
AESL is the largest private transmission company in the country, with a total transmission network of 29,739 circuit kilometers (CKM) and a transformation capacity of 143,425 MVA.
In the retail electricity distribution sector, AESL serves approximately 13 million consumers in the Mumbai metropolitan area and the industrial hub of Mundra SEZ.
AESL is rapidly expanding its smart metering business and is on track to become India’s leading smart metering integrator.
