Pinarayi Vijayan Criticizes Government for Fuel Price Hike

Thiruvananthapuram, May 15: Pinarayi Vijayan has launched a strong attack on the central government regarding the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. He described the rise of ₹3 per liter in fuel costs as a “cruel betrayal” of the common people and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

Vijayan stated that amidst rising inflation and the increasing cost of living, ordinary families are already under significant financial pressure. At such a time, the government’s decision to raise petrol and diesel prices has added an extra burden on the public.

He emphasized that the impact of the ₹3 per liter increase in fuel prices will not be confined to petrol stations alone; it will also affect transportation, daily goods, and essential commodities. This will further exacerbate the difficulties faced by laborers, farmers, and middle-class families.

The former Chief Minister of Kerala accused the central government of failing to pass on the benefits of lower crude oil prices in the international market to the common consumers. Instead, he claimed that the government is now placing a new burden of inflation on the public by citing the losses of oil companies.

Vijayan pointed out that the policies of the central government seem to protect corporate interests rather than those of the general public. He also raised concerns about the continuously rising prices of cooking gas and the shortage of LPG. He noted that the government’s misguided policies have already made daily life difficult for millions of families.

He accused the government of exacerbating the plight of people struggling with inflation by continuously raising prices instead of providing relief. Vijayan warned that this increase in fuel prices will place additional pressure on household budgets across the country.

He asserted that in challenging economic conditions, the role of governments should be to provide relief to the public, not to increase their hardships. He urged the central government to immediately reverse this decision.
