
Islamabad, May 10: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif engaged in a phone conversation with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering positive dialogue in the Middle East.
PM Shahbaz shared the news on the social media platform X, expressing his pleasure at receiving the call from his brother, the Qatari Prime Minister. He stated, “This morning, I had a delightful conversation with my brother, Sheikh Mohammed. We exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and reiterated our commitment to supporting ongoing efforts for peace, stability, and constructive dialogue across the region.”
He further expressed gratitude to the Qatari Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for Qatar’s continuous support of Pakistan’s sincere efforts to bring peace and stability through understanding and diplomacy. “I look forward to welcoming my dear brother, the Amir of Qatar, to Pakistan soon,” he added.
Additionally, information shared by the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that both leaders reviewed ongoing peace initiatives in the region. The office emphasized the deep brotherly ties between the two nations, noting the importance of constructive engagement among all parties to ensure the success of these peace efforts.
It was noted that the Amir’s upcoming visit would help strengthen and enhance the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and Qatar. According to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, Sheikh Mohammed expressed full support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts to peacefully resolve crises.
He stressed that all parties must respond to these efforts to create the right conditions for progress in dialogue, paving the way for a significant agreement that would ensure lasting peace in the region.
This marks the second phone call between PM Shahbaz and Sheikh Mohammed this week. Prior to his conversation with the Pakistani PM, the Qatari Prime Minister visited the United States, where he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Vitkoff.
Rubio mentioned discussions on U.S. support for Qatar’s defense, while the Qatari Foreign Minister noted that the talks also included discussions on Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
