CBI Introduces QR Codes on Notices to Combat Cyber Fraud

New Delhi, April 21: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced a significant step to curb cyber fraud and fake notices. Starting May 1, 2026, all official notices issued by the CBI will feature a unique QR code. This initiative aims to protect the public from scams involving cyber arrests or fraudulent notices.

According to sources within the CBI, each notice will have a distinct QR code that can be scanned to verify its authenticity. Additionally, the QR code will provide information on the notice’s validity period. Once the notice expires, the associated QR code will automatically deactivate, preventing any misuse.

Officials have noted a rise in cases where cybercriminals use fake notices and impersonate investigation agencies to intimidate and defraud individuals. In response, this technological measure has been implemented to help the public easily distinguish between genuine and counterfeit notices.

Furthermore, the CBI has introduced an AI-based help bot named ‘Abhay’ for those who have doubts or concerns. Users can scan the QR code on the notice to verify its legitimacy and receive immediate information.

The CBI believes that this new system will enhance transparency in the investigation process and strengthen public trust. It will also significantly help in curbing the activities of cybercriminals.
