Pakistan Announces T20 Squad with Babar and Shaheen’s Comeback for Australia Series

Pakistan and Australia are set to face off in a three-match T20 series scheduled from January 29 to February 1. All-rounder Salman Ali Agha will lead the Pakistani side as captain ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Former captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi make their return to the T20 squad after missing the recent three-match series against Sri Lanka in January. Babar had a challenging run in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), scoring just 202 runs in 11 matches. He has now left his BBL franchise ahead of the playoffs to rejoin the national team.

The batting lineup for Pakistan looks strengthened with in-form players like Fakhar Zaman, Saif Ayub, and Sahibzada Farhan included. However, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has been left out of the squad.

Spin bowling options feature Shadab Khan, who has been selected along with Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and Usman Tariq, forming a solid spin attack. The fast bowling unit will be led by Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Wasim Jr.

Notably, Pakistan’s key T20 bowler Haris Rauf, who took 20 wickets in 11 recent BBL matches, is absent from the squad.

Pakistan will begin its 2026 T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 against the Netherlands. All group stage matches for Pakistan will be played in Colombo.
