Mustafizur Rahman Set to Debut in BBL for Melbourne Renegades

Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman is ready to make his BBL debut with the Melbourne Renegades, enhancing their bowling lineup.

Melbourne, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : Bangladeshi left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is poised to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut this season, playing for the Melbourne Renegades. The team signed him to bolster their pace attack following Jason Behrendorff’s injury, which will sideline him for the season due to shoulder surgery.

Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi believes that Mustafizur’s ability to secure breakthroughs at various stages of the innings will be a crucial asset to their bowling unit.

“Mustafizur is a match-winner in T20 cricket worldwide. His knack for taking wickets during powerplays and in death overs is exactly what we sought for our attack. BBL fans love a player who can change the game in a single over, and Mustafizur can do just that. He has the ability to make every ball special. Our fans will enjoy watching him light up the summer,” Ronchi stated.

Mustafizur will be the third Bangladeshi to play in the BBL, following Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain, who is currently with the Hobart Hurricanes this season.

Known for his swing and yorkers, the 31-year-old boasts extensive experience in various cricket leagues worldwide, having taken 423 wickets in 331 T20 matches, including both league and international formats. His career highlights include nine seasons in the Bangladesh Premier League and eight in the IPL, where he was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team that won the title in 2016 during his debut season.

Excited about his upcoming BBL stint, Mustafizur expressed his anticipation for playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). “I am looking forward to playing my first BBL season with the Melbourne Renegades. Playing at the MCG as my home ground will be special, and I am eager to connect with my teammates and bring my experience to the team,” he said.

However, he will miss the Renegades’ historic season opener against the Perth Scorchers in Chennai due to prior commitments with Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. He will be available for the remainder of the tournament.
