Jammu, March 22: A massive influx of pilgrims has been reported at the base camp of the Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra, located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced that over 30,000 devotees have already set out to visit the sacred cave.
The surge in the number of pilgrims is attributed to the ongoing Chaitra Navratri festival, which has drawn thousands from across the country seeking blessings at the Vaishno Devi shrine. Despite the large crowd, the pilgrimage is proceeding in an organized manner. Authorities are maintaining strict control over the crowd and ensuring that all necessary facilities are available for the pilgrims.
Devotees have expressed appreciation for the overall arrangements in the area. Many have noted significant improvements in the signage and information displays throughout the region.
Earlier, on Saturday evening, the registration process for the pilgrimage was temporarily halted. However, it resumed at 4 AM on Sunday due to the heavy influx of devotees in Katra. The registration was initially stopped about four hours before its scheduled closing time of 10 PM. Despite this interruption, the pilgrimage continued smoothly throughout the night without any disruptions.
Officials reported that since the beginning of Navratri, nearly 100,000 devotees have visited the holy cave temple. To manage the large number of pilgrims, authorities have implemented stringent crowd control measures and made necessary arrangements to ensure a safe and organized experience for all.
Situated atop the Trikuta hills, this temple attracts over 10 million pilgrims each year. Under the guidance and supervision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the SMVDSB is efficiently managing the temple’s operations.
