New Delhi, 3 January. More than 130 individuals were arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in 2025 for using fake passports and visas. These people were linked to travel agents and illegal immigration networks from various parts of the country.

For the first time, investigations in 2025 went beyond arrests to include financial scrutiny. Authorities were instructed to trace the money transactions related to the fraud. Although most payments were made in cash, thorough inquiry led to the identification of over 100 suspicious bank accounts, which have now been frozen from debit transactions.

Additionally, officials are identifying properties acquired through criminal activities by the agents. In one case, an application has been filed in a competent court for attaching such property.

Officials stated that similar legal actions will be taken in other cases to completely stop illegal earnings. A special team has been formed to examine every aspect and provide reports promptly to senior authorities.

The IGI Airport unit also issued 140 lookout circulars against absconding accused in 2025 to prevent criminals from fleeing abroad. Several individuals involved in these activities have been identified.

Strict action was also taken against brokerage and theft cases at the airport. Over 400 people linked to brokerage were arrested, while more than 60 individuals were arrested in theft cases involving passenger luggage and cargo. Ground handling staff of related airlines were also questioned in these investigations.

The Delhi Police’s Indira Gandhi International Airport unit firmly stated that illegal activities such as illegal immigration, fraud, brokerage, and theft at the airport will not be tolerated. Strict and continuous action will continue to eliminate such activities completely.
