Over 1.26 Million Passengers Return to India from Gulf and West Asia Since February 28

New Delhi, April 25: The government announced on Saturday that over 1.26 million passengers have returned to India from the Gulf and West Asia region since February 28.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it is closely monitoring developments in the region, with a particular focus on the safety and welfare of the Indian community.

Indian missions and posts located in the Gulf and West Asia are operating 24-hour helplines and are actively assisting citizens while maintaining constant communication with local governments.

The government has been regularly issuing advisories to keep Indian citizens informed about local regulations, travel updates, and available consular services.

Missions are also engaging with groups, companies, and professional organizations within the Indian community to ensure timely assistance reaches those in need.

Flight operations between India and the region are gradually improving, with additional services being introduced.

In the UAE, airlines are operating limited commercial flights with safety considerations in mind; approximately 110 flights are expected to operate between the UAE and India on Saturday.

Services are also ongoing from Saudi Arabia and Oman, while Qatar Airways has resumed flights following the partial reopening of Qatar’s airspace.

Air connectivity is increasing in other parts of the region as well. Kuwait and Bahrain have reopened their airspace, and airlines are either resuming limited flights to India or planning to do so.

Iraq is allowing limited flight services that can be used for onward travel, while Iran has partially opened its airspace for cargo and charter flights.

The government has advised Indian citizens against traveling to Iran and urged those currently there to exit the country through ground borders with the assistance of the Indian embassy in Tehran, which has already helped over 2,400 Indians leave the country.

Meanwhile, Israel has resumed limited flight operations, providing additional routes for travel to India through connecting destinations.

On the maritime front, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has stated that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of Indian ships and sailors operating in the region.

The central government reported that there have been no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels in the past 24 hours, and all Indian sailors present in the region are safe.
