New Delhi, March 24: Central Minister Satish Chandra Dubey responded to statements from opposition leaders regarding the Transgender Amendment Bill. He asserted that the opposition’s primary function is to oppose every bill.
In a conversation in New Delhi, Dubey challenged, “If there is any bill that the opposition does not oppose, please name it. They even oppose the best initiatives. There are several states where central schemes, such as the Kisan Samman Nidhi and Ayushman Bharat, are not implemented. The Congress and other opposition parties should support good initiatives, but their role seems to be solely about opposition.”
He also commented on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, emphasizing that war is not a solution. “History shows that issues can be resolved through dialogue. Compromise is always the best approach. India consistently advocates for peace. Today, discussions took place between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, and surely, this should lead to some resolution.”
On the Transgender Amendment Bill, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sahrawat stated that the opposition suggested sending the bill to a committee for proper discussion. However, the government clarified that the committee had already discussed it. “It is true that transparency is crucial for transgender individuals,” he noted.
Central Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar posted on the social media platform ‘X’, assuring MPs during the discussion on the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, that under the sensitive leadership of PM Modi, the bill aims to amend the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. This law is designed to protect individuals facing severe social ostracism due to their biological status. The act is committed to the rights and welfare of transgender individuals. Following this amendment, a district magistrate will issue a certificate of identity as a transgender person, based on the recommendation of a medical board.
