New Delhi, July 20: Congress MP Manish Tewari has written to the Lok Sabha Secretary-General, requesting a discussion on the Anti-Defection Law. In his letter, Tewari stated, “I seek permission to propose an adjournment of the House proceedings to discuss a matter of immediate importance. I propose that the House suspend question hour, zero hour, and all other scheduled business for the day to deliberate on the framework of a new Anti-Defection Law.”
Tewari further emphasized, “This law should prevent opportunistic political defections that occur on a large scale without any genuine ideological or policy differences. It should also allow for honest and critical dissent both within and outside Parliament and Assemblies. Therefore, I urge the government to suspend today’s proceedings and allow for a comprehensive discussion on this important issue.”
Additionally, Congress MPs will meet at 10:30 AM to discuss decisions made during the opposition floor leaders’ meeting.
In a related matter, Tamil Nadu Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore has also written to the Lok Sabha Speaker to raise concerns regarding the NEET paper leak case. In his letter, he noted, “Reports indicate that incidents of paper leaks have occurred in national-level entrance exams like NEET, yet no substantial or collective action has been taken against this issue.”
Tagore continued, “Despite the clear failure of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, he remains in office without any moral accountability, violating the fundamental principle of ministerial responsibility. There have been suicides directly linked to this issue in Tamil Nadu, where ministers and officials are harassing students and families.”
He added, “The Congress party has raised this issue, and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has met with families affected by NEET in Tamil Nadu to offer support. Congress MPs have been instructed to reach out to the victims’ families and demand an end to the exploitative aspects of NEET, holding the government accountable both inside and outside Parliament.”
