New Delhi, July 28: During the monsoon session of Parliament, opposition parties criticized the central and Uttar Pradesh governments over issues related to paper leaks, donations for the Ram Temple, and student concerns. Members from the Samajwadi Party (SP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and Shiv Sena (UBT) called for extensive discussions in the House, questioning the government’s functioning.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav responded to the anti-paper leak law, stating that merely enacting a law will not prevent such incidents. He emphasized that until the officials responsible for implementing the law and the entire process of question paper preparation and printing are honest, irregularities will persist. According to him, the success of any law depends on its effective and impartial implementation.
Yadav also raised concerns about the misuse of donations for the Ram Temple. He alleged that this issue relates to the sentiments of millions of devotees of Lord Ram, both in India and abroad, yet a complete account of the donations has not been made public. He questioned how the funds received for temple construction were utilized and why transparent accounting has not been provided. He noted that during LK Advani’s Ram Rath Yatra in 1990, significant amounts of money, jewelry, and other valuables were donated, but proper accounting for those funds has not been given. He accused the Uttar Pradesh government of undermining the trust of devotees due to its negligence.
JMM MP Mahua Maji criticized the ruling party for its handling of parliamentary proceedings. She stated that it seems the government wants to avoid discussions on important issues raised by the opposition. She noted that whenever opposition MPs request discussions under Rule 267, the House is adjourned. However, she expressed hope that the government would now allow the House to function smoothly for meaningful discussions on crucial topics.
Maji also emphasized the need for serious discourse on the anti-paper leak bill, highlighting that paper leaks have affected the futures of millions of students, with some even resorting to suicide due to mental pressure.
She further accused the government of using batons and tear gas against protesting students, with many facing legal charges. She demanded that the government fulfill its promise to withdraw all cases filed against protesters and create laws to ensure that innocent individuals are not punished.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant also questioned the police actions during the student protests and the paper leak issue. He remarked that the nation witnessed the police’s use of force during the protests, including alleged misconduct against women. He stated that questions have arisen regarding the law and order enforcement system, making it essential to have a detailed debate in Parliament on this matter.
