BJPs Newly Elected MLAs to Take Oath in West Bengal Today

Two BJP MLAs elected from Nandigram and Rezinagar will take their oaths today in West Bengals assembly.

Kolkata, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : In Kolkata, two newly elected BJP legislators, Hasirani Rath and Sakharav Sarkar, will take their oaths today. The ceremony follows by-elections held earlier this month for the Nandigram seat in East Midnapore and the Rezinagar seat in Murshidabad.

The oath-taking will be conducted by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rathindra Bose. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to attend the event before presiding over a cabinet meeting at the Nabanna state secretariat.

The by-elections took place on October 6, with results announced on October 9. With the victories of Rath and Sarkar, the BJP’s representation in the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly has increased to 209.

Hasirani Rath won Nandigram by a significant margin of 122,753 votes, while Sakharav Sarkar secured Rezinagar with a margin of 75,816 votes. Sarkar’s substantial victory surprised many political analysts, especially given that over 65% of the voters in Rezinagar are from minority communities.

Despite this, the Chief Minister claimed that the results from Nandigram and Rezinagar indicated a growing trust in the BJP among minority voters, attributed to the development efforts made in the first five months of the new government.

He noted that minority voters in West Bengal are beginning to realize that previous ruling parties misled them by portraying the BJP as a communal force, rather than focusing on their development.

Additionally, he highlighted that a significant number of female voters from the minority community, who benefited from the Annapurna scheme, voted for the BJP in both constituencies alongside their families.

Hasirani Rath is the mother of Chandranath Rath, who previously served as an executive assistant to Suvendu Adhikari. Chandranath was tragically shot and killed on May 6 in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas.
